Concrete and Contests

Our new patio was poured on Friday, and it turned out nicely. Nothing fancy, just a big 10x40 rectangle with curved corners. We looked into stamping and exposed aggregate, but those options were too expensive.

What we have now is a nice outdoor space to spread out some patio furniture, storage bins, planters, and a BBQ. I've been without a BBQ for six years now, since we couldn't fit our old one into the moving van and decided to leave it for the new homeowners.

Hopefully it won't be long before I'm outside grilling up some burgers and steak. Speaking of which, I have a second big Father's Day giveaway for you! This time, the good folks at Outback Restaurant have given me a $25 gift card to award to one lucky reader. Go to my contest page for all the details.

My previous Father's Day contest, for the $100 gift card from Home Depot, is now over, and the winner is... Daddy Forever. Congrats!

And stay tuned for a third Father's Day giveaway, coming Wednesday.

Thanks for prize! I appreciate it.

That's a big concrete patio. In a couple of years, the kids' plywood playcourt will have to be replaced. I'll probably go with concrete too, but I've never poured concrete before.

Wanna come over and get one for our house too? We don't mind serving some breakfast in bed for that!

Hey Phil,

I'll be up at my dad's house on Father's Day. He has Parkinson's Disease, and his condition is deteriorating rapidly, so we don't know how long he has left. In those moments of lucidity, though, he still loves to talk about the old days over a nice lunch at his favorite restaurant in town. After having had a tumultuous and strained relationship with him for many years, I'm more than happy to oblige.

Our family LOVES Outback. With the economy that is now a luxury. Sure would love to take my husband there.

I was gonna talk about how I'll be spending the day with my nieces, since I never had any kids of my own, but I'm not gonna even TRY to compete with Parkinson's!

I love Outback and would love the gift card! I think we'll probably do our usual Sunday morning church. After that, we might grab some lunch somewhere. Other than that, I don't think we have any big plans...unless my wife is really sneaky.
