Dogs vs. Babies

The kids and I had a good "March For Babies" last Saturday, strolling about three miles before we had to cut it short to get to a soccer game.

I'd like to thank the three people who donated $25 to our efforts for the March of Dimes. Two of you were anonymous, but the third deserves a public pat on the back. Thanks Dan!

We were part of a small group of around 75 walking along the Centennial Trail on a beautiful Saturday morning. I wondered why more people couldn't come out for a good cause.

Wrong cause, I guess, because the very next day a group of 150 people gathered to walk their dogs in a fundraiser for the local humane society.

Homeless Dogs 150, Premature Babies 75.

Ah, but how much money did they raise?!

Premature Babies $17,000, Homeless Dogs $15,000.

We'll call it a draw.

I've nothing against homeless dogs, but it does frustrate me that people tend to prefer giving their cash to animals rather than humans sometimes.

And i gave $20, not $25, so maybe i should only have 80% of that praise:)

Way to go Phil, and Dan too. What is the current exchange rate? Maybe Dan gave closer to the $25 than he thinks.

Some days, when I'm frustrated with the human race, I tend to prefer animals over people myself. But I tend to get over it quickly.

I was going to compare the uproar over Michael Vick (the football player/dog killer) with the seeming lack of outcry over the recent Donte Stallworth drunk-driving death.

Apparently people have no stomach for killing dogs, but drunkenly running over people with your car is not so bad.

In defense of the dog people, there are not a lot of organized events for people to take their dogs to where they are actually welcome. It was probably circled on calendars for a very long time.
