Veggie Tales

My kids love their veggies. But only under certain conditions.
Carrots must be raw, not cooked.
Broccoli must be cooked, not raw.
Celery must be 2 inches or longer, never chopped into small pieces.
Corn must be on the cob, never loose on the plate.
Tomatoes are evil, but ketchup is heavenly.
Beans are gross, while refried beans are delicious.
Green beans are tolerable by themselves, but disgusting when mixed with macaroni and cheese.
Peas are fun to eat, but if one gets smashed, the party's over.
Mixing different vegetables together is forbidden, as it's too much work sorting them out to eat individually.
I try to remember these simple rules to avoid a mealtime rebellion. None of them make much sense to me, but at least the kids will eat their veggies in one form or another.

My kids only eat cooked corn, broccoli, carrots and cauliflowers. Full stop. No leafy ones at all. They say leaves are for caterpillars.
You're lucky. My son is 5 and still has never eaten a vegetable that wasn't hidden. We live by a cookbook called "The Sneaky Chef".
At least your kids like the SAME veggies.
Same here, one kid likes green beans raw, the other one prefers it steamed softly. One kid eats stirfry's the other hates it. Little man eats fries but shiffers at potatoes, mash potato, jacket pototo you name it he don't eat it unless it's fries or wedges. Which is not often. I was given the tip to try sweet potatoes with him.
BTW, this is my new link (under construction still).
We have veggie rules at our house, too. Josh completely agrees with your corn must be on the cob rule.
You're light years ahead of me here. I can't come up with one simple list about vegetables other than "don't serve 'em since they won't eat 'em."
Isn't that funny how the slightest variance can screw up a food for kids? Love your smashed peas observation. That's too funny :-)
I wish peas were fun at our house. At least when I make them with cheese, I get all of them.
Our green beans usually get swallowed with a glass of milk. No chewing, but at least they are going down.
Yeah, Zella has a rule, too. I don't like salads. All vegetables are salad.
try getting the kids to eat new veggies and foods by using chopsticks.

Jeff, I didn't even mention potatoes. The whole potato situation makes me crazy.
Fries are fine, unless we're out of ketchup.
Mashed is a toss-up. I'm never sure if the kids will be in the mood.
Baked is okay, but not if it's too crispy. And never with sour cream!
Tater tots and hash browns are a dead loss. I don't even bother.
Potato chips? Ahhh, now we're all happy!
Chopsticks for veggies... Good idea, I'll have to try that.
