The Worst Food

One unexpected result of homeschooling is that we go out for lunch more than we used to, usually twice a week, just to get a break from the house. The kids ask for McDonald's or Schlotzsky's Deli most of the time.

Neither restaurant offers the healthiest menus around, but at least they beat the likes of KFC, Wendy's, Quizno's, and Starbucks, all of which ended up on DailySpark's list of the 11 Worst Foods of 2008.

They recommend that you stay far, far away from the following items:

Wendy's Gourmet Mushroom Swiss Burger
Burger King Mushroom Swiss Steakhouse Burger
Romano's Macaroni Grill Seared Sea Scallops Salad
IHOP Butterscotch Rocks Pancakes
KFC Original Recipe Fully Loaded Box Meal
Taco Bell Fully Loaded Nachos
Quizno's Prime Rib Cheesesteak
Olive Garden Chicken & Shrimp Carbonara
Chili's Texas Cheese Fries with Jalapeno Ranch Dressing
Starbucks Signature Hot Chocolates
Jack in the Box Egg Nog Shake

If you want to read the gory details, read the original article.

Be careful, the article might make you sick to your stomach.

Or, it'll make you hungry for lunch!

Men's Health has a similar list out - at the top of it is a 2600 calorie, 135 gram of fat, 263 grams of sugar Oreo Cookie Shake from Baskin Robbins.

That's just not right.

That's an awfully large number of calories in one place.

I've read that Subway makes some pretty healthy kid's meals: the ham sandwich or turkey sandwich with juice box and raisins or apple slices meets the CSPI's guidelines.

That is just amazing!
We have a Calorie and Fat counter book now and my kids aim for 1200cals per day, just looking at some of those meals are scary enough!!

Being a vegetarian I won't even read it, as I know what's there. Thanks for the info on some of the fast food places, truly bad food for many of us and the children of course.

I already keep my children away from most fast food. Occasionally caving in to requests for chicken nuggets from McTrash, but I have to admit, I don't follow the same healthy eating rules I impose on them. I've lost count of how many Starbucks Hot Chocolates I have. I think I might start following my own rules.
