Damaged
I was reading an article in Rolling Stone about the tragic story of a US Marine suffering from severe PTSD because of his time in Iraq.
It's a horrible thought that you can multiply his case by thousands when all is said and done with this pointless war.
But what struck me in the article was a tidbit about this particular soldier's childhood years.
There are really parents like this? Sounds like this poor guy was damaged long before he put on a uniform.

"We had porn on all the time when I was a little kid, so it's just like background noise to me. We would sit down to dinner, and my dad got mad if the TV wasn't on Playboy."

Wow...that is so sad, and almost unbelievable.
That's pretty horrific.
Despite everything else I don't even understand what anyone would get out of having porn on 24 hours a day.
And most likely every relationship he will ever have in his life will be effected by that childhood experience!
Sad
For the price of the war, we could have built enough solar generating capacity to replace the need for Iraq's oil. This country is so messed up right now, it makes me crazy.
As for the dad: Sad to say, I don't think that kind of behavior is as uncommon as we'd like to believe.
That's the sound of me picking my jaw up off the floor. You need a license to fish or install a light switch. But anyone with working parts can have a child.
What a sad, sad world we live in.
Poor kid, poor man! He must have had one sick dad that's for sure, I wonder if that's why he chose soldiering as a career, violence?
Yeah, that article was a gut-wrencher, for sure.
