Music Week

All this week I'll be focusing on music. It's an important part of my family's life. Since they were babies, my kids have been exposed to different styles of music on a daily basis. From actively listening to Mozart, to watching Beatles' movies, to singing along with the Wiggles, we provide good music in much the same way we provide proper nutrition.

I believe that music is an essential part of brain growth in early childhood. Research shows that it can boost intelligence, positively shape self esteem, and be a great source of imagination and creativity.

If you don't have music in your house, you're letting your kids down.

So, my posts this week will be about the music my family enjoys. I'll have CD reviews and recommendations, playlists, downloads, videos, and more.

By the way, I do take requests.

I'd be quite interested to have a review or something of the new They Might Be Giants kids album (123 or something like that) It was released early feb over in the states but I don't think it's reached us over here yet.

Oh, and ou should do a podcast thing.

My house is and has always been filled with music, the radio in the kitchen is on from the first person up in the mornings (ME) to the last person to bed at night..... and 2 of me 4 lads are drummers in bands and both play guitar and keyboard and saxophone.... YOU GET THE IDEA lol.... and yes we do get complaints sometimes from the neighbours about the beautiful music that flows out of this house.... ok they call it a 'racket' but they must be tone deaf :).... and my Tom has mixing decks just to add to the hubbub LOL

The minded kids are subjected to all sorts of music in me car and NOT nursery rhymes lol I leave that to their parents...... at 3 Rhys would sing word perfect many many Beautiful South songs LOL....

Music, without music parts of life would be so very empty.....

My kids were raised listening to a variety of music ... including their grandfather's favorite ... big band music. Have you heard of a game (I believe) called "Music Maestro"? It's a board game with different musical games ... including recorded sounds from quartets, cello's ... wind instruments .. ... plus flash cards with ancient thru present instruments ... a fun game for home schooling families wanting to add music to their curriculum.

Music is definitely a big part of our family life. (It would be hard to have Funktastic Livingroom Dance Parties without it!) The kids generally like the same music we do, probably because that's all they've been exposed to so far...lol. It's mostly contemporary Christian rock and some 80s classics. Sometimes Caleb tells me I'm playing it too loud, though.

Music is part of our lives on a daily basis for sure and I'm so happy that our children love it.
