Happiness Is A Warm Cat

This is Basil's favorite spot during the winter. All warm and toasty by the fire.

These days of crackling fires and cups of hot cocoa are drawing to a close. Temperatures are up, the snow is melting, the streets are clear of ice. Spring is just around the corner, and soon Basil will find a new favorite spot in a cool, shady place.

Wouldn't you just know it... Halfway through this post, I get up to look out the window and find it's snowing again. Big fat flakes. Looks like winter isn't over yet.

Go on and curl up by the fire, Basil. I'll be outside shoveling.

Found your happy post on the net. Would love to know more about your happiness. I have a project to collect all happy faces that made my day. Just wondering if you have some happiness that you can share with me.

Please check out Smiles That Made My day blog.

Shoot shoot, bang bang. Thanks for making that Breaders song go through my head ALL DAY LONG.

Wish we had a fireplace even though it's going to be 72 today :-) I could see all 5 of our cats lazing by it. Maybe then I wouldn't have to clean all their fur off our couches!

I, too, was happy to find your happiness on the net. Happiness makes me happy. I am happy. Are you happy? Happily.

Basil and Idiot (err, my cat) would get along great. He loves laying in front of the fire.

But what's really fun is when one of the logs crackles and pops. One good "pop" will send the cat three feet straight up in the air. He then fires off at 100mph into another room.

It makes me happy.

We will be doing the shoveling thing again tomorrow as another foot of snow is expected overnight.

Popped by today to let you know I have added you to the Proud Papas of the Universe blogroll at my site.

Have a great weekend.

I was looking to see the cat _in_ the fireplace for a sec (don't ask me why). Glad to see he's enjoying being near to it. Furry things usually hate fire.

(I should proof read my grammar before hitting the submit button)

It was nice to meet you yesterday; you have a lovely family. Now I have a picture in my mind of you other than the moose ;)

Not being a cat person whatsoever, I am nonetheless a big softie, and when a skinny, bedraggled cat came mewing piteously round our doorstep last spring, I took pity and began feeding the poor creature.
Well, winter finally showed, and although I am sympathetic to the temp, I also see the four-legged snob as having a perfectly serviceable fur coat, so settled for erecting a little covered kitty litter box converted- blankets and all- to a toasty little outdoor respite from the elements. And judging from the blubber developing under that fur coat, I'd say he's doing just fine. But your photos of the luxurious snuggling of the gloriously happy feline by the roaring fire made me twinge at least slightly with my cat aversive stinginess, as far as the extent of my generosity goes. Ah well.
BTW, it was wonderful meeting you yesterday. After our short (shouted) conversation, I have even more respect for you and what you've done, both here on your blog, and obviously in the lives of your children- they seemed like absolutely fantastic kids. Hope I can do as well with my little guy.

One of our two cats loves being by the fireplace on a cold, wet day. Can you tell me where you got the cozy looking cat bed?

I think we found that cozy cat bed at PetSmart.

We were in the mountains last weekend and the house where we stayed had an old coal stove. Oh my dog LOVED that. He thought that stove was the best thing since milk
