Bleak Friday
Yesterday, on the so-called Black Friday, my kids and I spent the entire day in our pajamas. While others were madly rushing through stores, knocking down fellow shoppers, trying to grab a good deal on items they don't even need, we just lounged around the house. We read, played games, watched some old movies, cleaned house, and ate leftover turkey.
I have never shopped on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Not in my entire life. I don't understand how a day of mindless consumption has become a part of what is supposed to be a time of giving thanks. Thanks for family, friends, home, security and comfort. Most especially, it should be a time to appreciate all that we already have. Not what we can get for 30% off down at Kmart.
Hey, I like to give gifts as much as the next guy. But I don't need a day of madness at the mall to get everyone crossed off my list.
So I say, "Bah Humbug!" to Black Friday. And "Welcome Christmas!" to the next four weeks.

I must admit I'm itching to get the Christmas decorations up.
I could not aggree with you more.
Ditto, we stayed home and up put up our Christmas lights for which I feel mildly guilty about using extra power. But I guess not enough to take them down.
I've never done the black Friday shopping in previous years, but I had my older sister out for Thanksgiving this year and she was kind enough to watch the kids for us last night so we could attend a concert. In exchange I went shopping with her yesterday afternoon which she does every year without fail on black Friday. We didn't go to the mall, though. Instead we hit two stores, found some good deals and didn't have to deal with crowds or parking problems. It seemed relatively quiet, actually. Hopefully most people had the same idea as you!
I agree with you so so much. Our malls are getting busier and busier and just looking at some people's shopping trolley's makes you shiver. Then you hear every one complain about fuel prices, interest rates rising and how they have to make ends meet, you wonder why these people don't rather save that money.
What are we teaching our kids, no more family values and morals? Just buy what ever you want when you see it and on credit card I presume if they say they don't have enough money?
It's a strange world out there.
Good on ya!
Amen! Granted I used to be dragged along on shopping sprees at "Holy Crap It's Early!" specials. No more though, not since I became an adult!
Years ago I went out for some unremembered reason. The introvert in me was horrified at so many grouchy, mean, push, loud people. I needed to be alone in a quiet cocoon for a week afterward.
