Law of the Kitchen

I've learned something quite valuable over the years.

The amount of time and thought I put into a meal is inversely proportional to the amount of enjoyment my children receive from the meal.

If I serve cheese and crackers found at the last minute in the back of the pantry, I hear this: "Hooray for Daddy!"

But if I dare to slave all day on a fresh-from-scratch Boeuf Bourguignon, I'm most likely to hear this: "Yuck. Can't we have cheese and crackers?"

I never use to give my lads 'kids dinners' like so many do over here, you know, like, fishfingers and chips, burgers and chips, pizza and chips..... we always had proper dinners like shepards pies, curries, toad in the hole, stews, mushroom and lentil bakes etc....... so when they use to have friends back from school I use to have to buy 'kids things in' cos I would ask the friends parents if they would eat such and such, and the parents would say, good god NO.... just give them pizza...... *rolling me eyes* so my kids use to think it was a wonderful treat to have a friend back for tea, not cos of the friend but cos of the fishfinger chips and beans LOL
