Tricks or Treats

My son has worn the same costume for the last three years. I guess when you find something that works, you run with it. I might hide the costume next year to force him to put as much thought into what he wears as he does into thinking up creepy decorations for the house. We went all out this year... "All out" meaning we had an extra $50 to spend on decorations.
I built a shelter out of PVC pipe and set it up over our front walk, then stretched that nasty cobweb material over the top of it. We peppered it with about 40 plastic spiders, then hung liberal amounts of black crepe paper streamers down the sides to create a "spooky tunnel" leading up to the front door. Skeletons, rats, skulls, and tombstones rounded things out.

I planted myself near the door, sitting still and making kids wonder if I was a dummy (this has also been debated by my in-laws). Then I'd leap up and frighten them all away before they could get their hands on my candy.
Today I'm just so happy to box up all the creepy decorations. I can only take so much ghoulishness this time of year, what with election day coming up soon.

WE don't celebrate Halloween in Oz, it's such a shame because after reading this post I can just imagine how much fun it must be. I love the idea you guys had. Photo is very handsome :)
We ended up having a few teenagers comming around doing door knocking, we didn't had candy in the house (my kids are with their natural father this week) and also did not expect any one, so guess what, they threw an egg onto our front window.
I thought it was pretty rude, but my hubby told me it's apparently what they do! But but but....
Nice to finally see a picture of you. Not exactly what I expected, but hey, everyone has that unique look. :)
Always love doing that to the kids who come to the door....

Clare has been a princess for the past three years...she just chooses from the Disney princess dresses in her closet. I do hope for more variety from her as she gets older. Although all through college and grad school whenever I went out for Halloween I was just "bloody guy" with random scars and blood on my face.
Seth isn't too big on scary stuff. I suppose that will change someday, but no sign as of yet.
I've gotta undecorate, too. I'm hoping the fake cobwebs I hung up will pull the real ones down with them and I won't have to dust!
Lots of dark porches around here. Apparently a lot of people head over to one part of town where houses hand out "regular size" candy bars. At first I didn't think that was a big deal. However, we stopped at a few homes where older people seemed so excited to see us and our kids. You could tell they just love to see the kids. Made me kind of sad to think that they would miss out on the bigger crowds.
Now I see why you've been reluctant to show your face, Phil. If you got a little sun and maybe tried a line of men's cosmetics, you'd be a real looker. :>
Excellent Halloweenage! Yours is the type of house that kids make a point of stopping at year after year. We had several adults in our neighborhood that had discovered the consolation prize for getting too old for trick-or-treating: scaring the kids!
omg! awesome!
