Steve Irwin, RIP

The news of Steve Irwin's death really breaks my heart.
We love just about everything he's ever done, even his silly 2002 movie Collision Course, which has a permanent place in our DVD library. My kids had the bulk of their early education on animals and the environment provided by Irwin and his videos. We all thrilled to his adventures, and we became addicted to his vibrant personality.
But forget all that. What breaks my heart is that he leaves two small children who will only know their daddy through recordings. For all the enjoyment that we will continue to receive through his documentaries, his kids will look at them and simply wish that their father had not put himself in harm's way one too many times.
We're going to miss The Crocodile Hunter... I don't know how I'm going to tell my kids about this one.

I just got to know this few minutes ago by my hubby who watched the CNN. Yes, it gave me a sudden sadness too. I had admired him for being a very colourful and vibrant animal lover, conserver and for all his interesting documentaries. We will never find somebody like him again!
And to think about the sorrow that is now enveloping the kids and the wife he left... it hurts!
It is sad. We worried something like this would happen after that Croc and baby incident.
Fortunately, we only have one video with Irwin on it -- a Wiggles video.
I feel for his kids.
I am truely saddened for Steve's family. He was one of those gifted adventurer scientists whose love of all things wild was contagious. My wife and I I have loved his programs for years and recently introduced the Wiggles/Croc Hunter program. It is too bad there won't be any new programs to share.
While it may be of little consolation now, his family will at least have the memories of a man/father who lived his life to the fullest and gave back much to the world. RIP indeed.
I am with you Phil, it's so awfully sad. I made a post yesterday about him too. There (can you believe) are already uninformed people who said "What was he doing diving with stingrays? He should've stuck to what he know best?"
I could not believe it, so I left a comment to 'educate' them, he WAS an experienced diver, and knew marine creatures...helooowwww!
It's nothing more than an accident, so I wish people can back off in times like this.
I think it's so sad and he will be missed by many.
Thanks for the song.
very sad
Definitely a loss. His often-imitated Australian accent and his fearlessness have made him a cultural icon that will not soon be forgotten.
Yes, he chose a high-risk career, but accidents can happen to anyone, even those who barely leave their house. At least he lived!
Katrina, you're so right... Steve Irwin taught me a lot about the creatures of our planet, but he taught me more about getting out and living life. I'm more active now than I was twenty years ago and part of the reason was Irwin's inspiration.
We were very sad to hear this news, too. I never like to hear about kids losing a parent. He will certainly be remembered.
I"ve never really seen this guy in action. It is very sad that his kids will no longer have him around, and I would imagine that it will be strange for them to watch all of his DVDs in years to come. At the same time, here is a man who really lived out a sense of adventure and did what he wanted to do in life. Hopefully all of us Dads can say the same about our own lives (without getting killed hopefully too).
hey i was devastated to find out about steves death it must have been relly tragic for his family. I always thought that he would die from a Alligator something not a sting ray!! G2G
