Speaking of dogs, we found a little Pomeranian at our back door last night. She had dug under the fence to explore our backyard and couldn't find her way out.

My two kids, who profess their dislike of dogs on a daily basis, were clearly smitten by this intruder. They actually enjoyed playing with the dog, and they took turns walking her around the neighborhood as we figured out which of the homes behind us was hers.

When they had to give her up, after about 30 minutes of dog-sitting, both kids were kind of sad. They wanted to keep her longer. I was perplexed. These are the children who say, "Cats rule, dogs drool" and "Dogs are stupid!" Later that night I said to my son, "See, dogs aren't so bad." The day before he would've said "Dogs, yuck!" and rushed to defend the honor of cats everywhere. But last night he could only shrug and grudgingly admit that maybe, just maybe, some dogs are kinda fun.
