D.A.R.K. Song

Inspired by the music blog (sm)all ages, I'm launching a weekly feature called Dance Around the Room with your Kids (isn't that clever?) in which I'll post a fun song for you to, uh, do what I said above... Grab your kids, join hands, knock over some chairs, make your neighbors shake their heads, sing along, dance like mad, make a great memory!

We'll kick it off with a finger-snapping tune from 1983, "Motor Mania" by Roman Holliday. Remember those guys with the sailor hats? They were sort of a three-hit wonder. "Stand By," "Don't Try To Stop It," and "Motor Mania" were all hits for them. Then they faded off into the early 80's sunset with similar bands like JoBoxers and Haircut 100.

Here it is: Roman Holliday - "Motor Mania" MP3

Start dancing!

Some favorites at our house are The Apple Song, by Calibretto 13; Sir Duke, by Stevie Wonder; and the ever-popular Peanut Butter Jelly Time.

Great idea! We were all out to dinner Friday night, wife and I eating take out food at the winebar outside with a bottle of wine while kids ate ice cream, so we could listen to the band playing in the village square, and the kids were dancing up a storm. I joined in and tried to show them how grownups dance, but mostly I just let them have at it.

D.A.R.K., SAHD....man, we Dads are sure good at coming up with the ironic handles, eh?

Praise You by Fatboy Slim and The Hoppity Song by Five for Fighting (off the fabulous For the Kids CD) always get the toddler hopping.

I love 80's music but I must have blinked when these guys passed through.

It's definitely quite the snappy song.
