Backyard Blues
Excuse the lack of posts, but I'm too busy destroying my backyard.
Anyone have a landscaping horror story they'd like to share?
I once had gravel delivered to my house but the company would only put it out front. I spent the next four days shoveling it, and carrying it with a wheelbarrow into the back yard.
On the other hand, my arms looked great afterward.
I just found your website and blog while searching for information on Kamiak Butte (we are going there tomorrow.) I live in downtown Coeur d'Alene, just six blocks from the lake, and have the backyard blues. We had a beautiful yard until last year. We had a garage built to replace the original structure. Now we have half a yard of dirt and about half the garden we used to have. It is so depressing, but we're slowly reclaiming things.
Your photos of the area are amazing.
By the way, I'm a stay-at-home mom and your post about Rami Amaro was definitely enlightening. I don't feel so bad about laughing at her horrible picture on her billboards now.
Oh, Phil, I can't compete with your excavator, but I did find that the previous owners of this home we bought last month had used the area behind the shed as their personal refuse pile. I spent a few hours shoveling it out the other day and separating the yard waste from the dump bound stuff. I found everything from broken ceramic tiles and chunks of asphalt to candy wrappers and rotting pumpkins. Good times!
I recall as a kid having to move rock all over the place at my parents' house. I think the gravel delivery guys wouldn't put it anywhere but front, just as an earlier commenter said. I hated it. They were all sizes of rocks, not just a lot of small ones you could shovel.
As for my current problem, the trees in the backyard are doing too well, and now they need trimming AND they're killing the grass due to overshading! Ack, I hate yard problems.

Sorry. Never owned my own property. *smile*
What are you doing with your backyard? Play area? Pool? Patio?

We had a trencher slip a gear and rip out our new air conditioner. Luckily it didn't rip off someone's leg.

Phil!
YOU are operating heavy equipment? I never knew you had it in you. Wow!
