Forever Young

The AARP is now apparently employing mind readers on it's membership committee, because somehow they were able to sense how I feel. Today in the mail I received a personalized plea to join the group and "get the most out of life over 50." Please, give me another decade before you tell me that I'm an old fart.

In the meantime, to help keep wrinkles and senility at bay, here's some advice to live by:

Satchel Paige’s Rules for Staying Young

1. Avoid fried meats which angry up the blood.
2. If your stomach disputes you, lie down and pacify it with cool thoughts.
3. Keep the juices flowing by jangling around gently as you move.
4. Go very light on the vices, such as carrying on in society - the social ramble ain’t restful.
5. Avoid running at all times.
6. And don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you.

Since I just started getting retirement, and my husband has for a while, we have been getting offers from nursing homes......but the WORST.....letters from funeral homes! This is depressing, and actually maddening! Hey, we get up all our own firewood, my husband bow hunts, we camp, walk 3 miles very fast weather permitting......guess they don't know that.......

They forgot to add "stay away from discussions about daycares vs. at home parenting".

When my paternal grandmother was still with us she used to get offers of membership from AARP. Though her name was Christine they often sent then mailings with either a first initial or just Chris.

My grandmother lived with my parents for a few years before she passed away. So AARP had her current address as my parents' address. After I left the military I also lived with my parent for a short time. My grandmother had already passed but the mailings kept coming addressed Chris which is my name also.

I thought about joining (only 22 at the time) just for the benefits, but I figured they would eventually find out.
