Curiously Sleepy

I took my 4-year-old daughter to see "Curious George" last weekend. It was very cute, and she loved it, but I must confess to feeling a bit sleepy and I'm not sure if maybe my eyes didn't close for a moment or two. I just hope I didn't snore.

Speaking of sleep, I don't get enough of it. I probably average six hours a night, which allows me to function just fine although I do have my daily "zombie" moments. Over the years my brain has actually adjusted to that amount of sleep and if I try to go to bed earlier I either toss and turn or wake up early. My wife says I'm doing damage to my mental health by not getting eight or more hours each night, but I think I'm okay.

Of course, the other night I did have a very strange dream in which I was eating a giant marshmallow. I woke up the next morning to find my pillow gone. HA HA HA HA HA... my son loves that joke.

How much sleep are you getting each night?

I'm with you Phil....
about 6 hours, on average. It isn't very often I get more than that.
Its not like there's anything keeping me up or waking me up.... I just am.
I've always done pretty good with very little sleep. I think if your body wanted or needed more, it would let you know. I wake up without an alarm most mornings. I would think that wouldn't happen if my body needed more rest.

P.S. I think I nodded of during Curious George too. Something about those Jack Johnson tunes.

I'm on the six-hour-per-night plan too, and it's just not enough. My dh and I joke that by the time we're able to sleep in again, we won't be physically able to anymore.

And I've had one of those Jack Johnson songs burning a hole in my brain for the last four days. Timed, curiously enough, with the day that we brought home the cd. I don't think it's stopped playing since then.

My average is about 5-6 hours per night, but the standard deviation is big. Some nights my 2-year old sleeps right through and I get about 7-8 hours. Some nights, like last night, I couldn't get to sleep until midnight, and then my 2-year old woke up at 1:00 and didn't go back to sleep until 3:30, and I have to get up at 6:00. Even when I get my average 6 hours, it sometimes comes in a 3 hours of sleep/2 hours awake with kid/3 hours of sleep distribution.

Oh well. At least she's gotten better recently about not waking up for 2 hours every night.

I sleep anywhere from 7.5 hours to 9 hours a day, which means I average pretty close to 8. Of course, with the kids waking up all the time, it may not be consecutive hours of sleep.

But as a rule, I'm a stickler about getting enough sleep because 1. I don't want to pass out during my commute. 2. I'm a real grump if I don't. And I mean I get mean. 3. I love a good night sleep.

Whenever I have trouble sleeping at night I always know it's one of three things: 1. I'm eating too much dark chocolate during the day. A nanogram of caffeine keeps me up for a week. 2. I'm not running and need to get exercising again. 3. I'm having an allergic reaction to something on my skin.

Between 7-8 hours each night.

Thankfully we've never really had a problem with our son waking in the night. Which is good - some of my worst moments as a father have happened in the middle of the night.

I can handle a lack of sleep, but I'm Mr. Hyde when it comes to being woken against my will. My wife purposefully did her best not to wake me when our son was a baby, because I was such a jerk otherwise.

I like to have a few hours to myself each night after I put the kids to sleep, so I often find myself crawling into bed long after I've begun to feel tired. And my kids are always up super early (my husband just said something this evening about letting me sleep in this morning- and I got up at 6:45!) so I'm usually getting 6 hours, maybe 7 on a really good day. I don't feel like it's enough, but I do think I've become accustomed to it. And the many cups of coffee seem to help...

6 to 6.5 hours for me - midnight to 6:00 or 6:30 am. I use the time after my kids go to bed to hit the gym for an hour and catch up on reading. Love to have more, but that's how it goes...
