What Not To Buy

This time of year I always see dozens of lists of the best toys and games for kids, but here's a doctor advising what not to buy.

His list is mostly common sense. At least to me. Sometimes I forget how many parents out there lack any semblance of common sense.

I'll add a few more things to the list of what not to buy my kids for Christmas... I do not want to find these things under my tree. You hear me, Santa?!

  • Any toy that chirps, beeps, whistles, or clangs.
  • Crafts that I have to put together.
  • Anything that pees or drools.
  • McDonald's gift certificates.
  • Stuffed animals (enough already!).
  • Another version of Monopoly (we already have Scooby-Doo, The Simpsons, and Star Wars).
  • Any toy or game that has over 57 tiny plastic parts.
  • Socks.
  • Candy (they still have two pounds of the stuff from Halloween).
  • The very creepy Alive! Chimpanzee.
  • Hand-held video player.
  • Anything that has the word brat, weiner, or Pokemon in the title.

good luck on the pokemon wish!

As for beeping and other noisemaking toys, my sister once gave my kids the LOUDEST fire engine... Laughing while they unwrapped it.

In revenge I bought for her kids something even louder and more obnoxious the next year. I can't even remember what it was but it was awful. Since then only quiet presents...

I'm always amazed after the Christmas break when we have our first show & tell. I often wonder about some of the toys that people/parents/santa give young children. Good list!

You could always convert to Judaism. We don't really give out much in gifts.

Okay, I'd like to add to the list dolls who have their hair sewn into the packaging.

Phil, You are the unanimous favorite of our family on HBO. Hd the meeting at Thanksgiving and you won in the first ballot. Please let us see you on HBO tomorrow. I thought your posts today were, as always, hysterical.
