Devo 2.0
Fans of 80's New Wave will be happy to hear that Devo is back! But not really completely back... I don't know about this one. Kids singing Devo songs? Will it end up sounding like Menudo?
My children have never cared much for songs sung by other children. They've enjoyed Ralph's World, The Wiggles, Justin Roberts, and Tom Chapin. And now they're discovering all my old music, especially The Beatles, Split Enz, and XTC. Maybe I'll just make a CD with the original Devo tracks and let them listen to that.

While I enjoy rockin' out with my little ones and They Might Be Giants, the idea of kids singing the lead on Devo tunes really takes something away from it.
And I can't imagine the video for Whip It being nearly as good.
I can't picture my kids listening to Devo tunes either...They do love the "They Might Be Giants" though, but only the "fast songs". If I ever try to play anything at all slow they both bail on me...Oh, and I thought I was the only person who used to listen to XTC! I've got a few of their tapes kicking around somewhere.
I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist posting on this one. I'm the father of two young boys and I actually work for Walt Disney Records. I worked on both the Giants album and I'm listening to the DEVO2.0 master as I'm writing this. I was skeptical when I saw this one on our production schedule too, but these kids are really great and the album is a blast. It doesn't have that garage-edge that the original DEVO has, but honestly, would you rather listen to the DoodleBops the next time you pile into the car with your troops?
I think it could work if the kids have the right attitude. That is, they are not stage-managed actory types (the more "real" the better) and the adults running the project don't condescend to them (not ascribing any bad motives here, but there's a good chance this could happen unintentionally). I love Devo, and the potential for Devo's music to be right up the alley of kids has always been there.
I don't have kids, but I occasionally listen to Radio Disney!
Can't keep it on the dial for too long, but when they bust out the Weird Al, Devo or TMBG I'm all over it.
Wow, the idea of DEVO 2.0 is absurd at worst.
I've been playiing Devo, thc Clash and Ramones in the car lately and my kids love the originals just fine.
I was missing one of my clash CDs and "found" it one morniing when I heard it playing from the bedroom of my 8 year old. I've walked into the livign room and caught my son bopping along to Devo and last week my daughter and a girlfriend were painting their nails while listening to "End of Century". We don't need cleaned up kiddie copies of great music.
this is a perfect continuation of the idea of De-evolution. this is exactly what Devo should become. it is a mirror.
Duty Now For The Future! Devolve Or Die!
I only hope this is simply another step in Mothersbaugh and Casale's plan to subvert modern culture as opposed to a sell-out - we shall see !!
