Weird Baby Names
In the past couple of years I've heard of parents saddling their newborns with such strange names as Metallica (born in Boise, Idaho, named after dad's favorite rock band), Ender (born near Seattle, named after dad's favorite science fiction novel), and Messiah (born in Spokane, Washington, named after, well, you-know-who).
I don't understand why parents would put their kids on a fast track to teasing and bullying by giving them such an unusual first name. It's nice to stand out from the crowd, but try explaining that to a ten-year-old who is tired of the jokes and misspellings and just wants to fit in.

Growing up a boy named Shannon, I never got teased as much as one would think. I guess I was lucky. But I DID go oever all potencial names for my kids with a fine toothed comb before deciding on them.. I tried my best to joke each potencial name, to see how other kids might . Think Im pretty safe with Logan and Lance. Although, I must admit, the name Valken (from that Vanhelsing movie ) did peak my interest for a third boys name.
Shannon
People just amaze me at the silly names they give their kids.
When my sis in law was expecting the twins, we were searching for names for her. I think the funniest I ever found was in a story about what NOT to name your kids and this couple had named their boy twins Lemonjelo and Orangjello....Can you see it...LEMON JELLO and ORANGE JELLO....
People are crazier than anybody, pappy always said.
A family friend just named their boy "Trax." Their girl, about 4 years old now, is "Ramzi." I worry about those two.
Shannon my hubby would know how you felt. That was his middle name. His family called him that because he and his dad had the same name as did some of his uncles and cousins on both sides of the family. When we meet he didn't reveal this to me and I started using his first name James. I got a through tounge lashing from his aunt for not using the name his family knew him as. I STILL call him James.
But I agree with you about those silly names. I kept my three simple with Christopher (and no he is not Chris) Justin, and Jamie.
In highschool there was a girl named Shithead, she was middle eastern. It was supposed to be pronounced Shi-theeed but of course there was a lot of mis-pronounciation. :(
All through school, I was saddled with a weird name, so I know how it feels to have to repeat your name several times whenever you meet someone. Here are some weird names I've come across:
There was really a girl called Pattrizione in my 10th grade class. It sounds like some sort of pizza
Dah'Zelle...the poor, poor kid!
Humpman. Need I say more?
At school there was a girl called Fatima. I can just see the 3rd graders chanting, "Fat Mumma". To make it worse, Fatima wasn't exactly slender.
Ratseah, pronounced RAT-sy
I heard that a couple named their twins MaKellaney and Crikala
Shithead-that's pronounced shuh-THEED.
My friend, who is a drug addict, named her new born baby Cinnamon Spice Burkes (last name). She is now pregnaut with twins and 'plans' to name the girl Pink Princess Burkes and the boy Mazing Doude Burkes. I pray they all led a happy life.
I am a witness to the horrible acts of teasing because of a name.Quite actually,I was the victim! my mom gave birth to me at very young age. 13 to be exact. And who knows what was going through her mind at the time. So when I was born,12 weeks early, she gave me the horrible name Dakakamame Madaziana Mijuji Jones. People would laugh at me because I have two middle names, and my last name was the only part that seemed normal.
And when I was 19,I had my name legally changed to Diane May Jones.
I fifth grade,I went to school with twins (both boys) who were named December March and Barbie Doll. Now December was barely teased, but Barbie, now, different story. Kids would try and put wigs on his head and call him "Goo-Goo Girl".
Then in 7th grade I was put into a class with a girl with a strange name.It was exactly wierd, but it double letter. Her name was Ddiinniiaa-Kaatee.And,boy did it take up the whole line to write her name.
Wow,it really makes you wonder what the parents were thinking.
My sister-in-law named her daughter Bob Geraldo Smtih. Because when she was pregnaut, they thought it was going to be a boy. So of course,it was a surprise.
When my mother found out what the baby's name was,she asked her why did she stick with the original name for the boy and not give her a more girly name she replied "Well,I didnt really want to think of a name. I was too tired."
Yes it does,Donna.
Back in ninth grade,I went to school with a girl named Crystal Meth. When ever she would walk down the hallways, the boys would all pu their fingers on their mouths,as if they were smoking.I didnt find out her middle name and as to why kids would pick on her, until on the day of her funeral when she had commited suicide. :(
The only peron I know, with the weirdest name is Heranaldo.
I am quoting a paragraph from my daughter's 'Wierd but True' book.
"A girl named Rhoshandiatellyneshiahunneveahenkkoyaanisquatsiuth Williams was born in Texas in 1984.When she was three weeks old,her father changed her name so it had 1,063 letters-enough to fill a 4-inch-long newspaper column. According to The Guinness Book of Records, thats's still the worlds longest name."
Growing up Sarabeth was too easily confused with Elizabeth(my only reprive has been a Rascal Flatts song that sometimes spelled like mine)
the worst baby name I've ever heard though were girls from school:
Areley(Pronuncle like Harley with the h)
Velvet(who is an nice girl, her mother just...brave)
Velvet had a brother, Devil.(The school rumor was that the pregnacy was so bad she called him her lil 'Devil' and well it stuck. )
Carson(used on a girl. not bad but sub. teachers never knew who she was.)
Maurana(pronounced like moron-a and earned her some teasing.
okay a lot of teasing)
I work with this mess of a woman who named her son Neveah. That's "heaven" spelled backwards.
So now this poor little cracker boy is growing up with a name that's probably better suited to a black exotic dancer.
mmk some weird names ive heard...
-bich pronounced bik
-blake for a girl
-susan for a boy
-ashley lebron not to weird of a name but a reallly weird person!!
- jayde green
i like different names they aren't everyone else's

i love different names for kids...theyre original...i have a son named Maddox and a daughter Mina...and the next two names ive got picked out are Meadow (girl) Macon (rhymes w/ bacon)...except i never thought that my son would have a speech problem and calls himself Maggots...and i thought Mina was a simple name that yet i hadnt heard quite often on anyone...but man they always seem to mispronounce it at the Doctors office...
I too grew up with a strange name. My name is Fort McMurray, just like the tarsands boomtown in northern Alberta. No, I was'nt born there or concieved there. I am however a native Albertan. My younger brother's name is Dax Toller Rion McMurray. I have cousins; Rex,Ace, Honour, Dallas, Skye, Wyatt, Dylan, and the list goes on. Good Drugs in the early '60's? Or just a strange sense of humour.
Wow, some of those names are a bit odd. I hated my parents for nameing me Alexa-Lora(like Laura, but with a O). Apparently I was cute when I said my name. Although my name wasn't as weird as one of my friends through school, her name was Ngaire(pronounced Ny-ree)it was weird, and now I have a friend named Sylver, like the metal.
My relative named her 2 boys Zion and Zepherous. The girl,s name is zaxony.
I don't mind my name too much...it's Stevie-Jo and m mothers name is Ngaire except for her she prefers it pronounced "Nah-ree"
My children have very unique names. My girl, who is 6, her name is AERIS(air-es), and my boy who is 5, his name is SION(see-on). I got their names from video games. I just thought the names were beautiful. Everyone loves their names and always ask me where I got them. Don't be scared to be creative!! Just don't to crazy with it!!
My last name is Hicks, so what makes it bad is i live in a little redneck town called Mayberry, (Yes the town where Andy Griffith is from), and im not a redneck...but a goth. So it's a bit weird. Always got picked on, "Hickey" or "a bunch of hicks live there" or dumb stuff like that.
Hi. My name is Lucy... I HATE MY NAME!! My parents wanted me to have an old fashioned name. I have to brothers: Harold and Charles. I f you think I got it bad, I have a sister: Jemima.
I love names beginning with 'K':
Girl: Kyla.
Boy: Kiran. (Pronnounced KEE-RAN)
My name is Melissa but I want to change it to Octavia I am afraid though that it may be too out there.
Also my sister is having a baby girl named Emerson.
My name is Lola. It's OK. But in high school there were some weird names-
Tiggy
Honey-Bee
Juno
Blath (Pronounced B-L-A-W)
Annabee
Atlanta
Kirstin (For a boy)
Valentine
i love unique names my name is whalea i was named after an indian princess my oldest daughters name is Bobbijoe i also have a daughter named Luetta which was my grandmothers name a son named Ferguson a son named Anthony which isnt so unique but am currently pregnant and am planing on naming my next child honey

I went to high school with a girl named Conception. Yep. Conception. . . . I work at a Dr.'s office, and I had a patient once who's first name was Clitora.
I know a woman named Coco Watermelon
my mom worked at a hospital and she said one of the most popular names for girls was "Female" pronounced Feh-malay. She said often time immigrants with limited English skills would see Female written next to their baby and think that was its name.
My wife is pregnant and the hardest part is finding something that fits with my last name....Shave.
what bothers me about weird baby names is that people alter the english langauge! they just ignore the rules of vowels and spelling! you can't spell "grape" and pronounce it "gruh-pee." or say "louise" is "low-oy-say" just because you feel like it!
not to mention trying to pass off "gtuyflaw" or some other random jumble of letters. (i literally just closed my eyes and picked those letters. "gtuyflaw" sounds pretty good no? pronounced "get-you-off-aw".) it's ridiculous! people cannot be trusted. there are RULES to the order of letters and spelling.
people are just too ignorant and uneducated that they make up crap and pass it off as "original and unique."
really. you can be unique without butchering the english language. im 16 and even i know that. my name is hanna. pronounced hannah. ooooh how outrageous. i get crap for it all the time... people try to tell me how to spell my name. but i love it and it is unique without being overpowering or blatantly absurd.
obviously you cant have laws regulating names. but its a sad day when you see people abusing their freedoms for their own amusement or selfish motives... (attracting attention, publicity, making it on tv for the most outrageous name..)
WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? THE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS? THE GRANDCHILDREN WHO WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE ON THESE RIDICULOUS LABELS AS MIDDLE NAMES?
it will no longer be.. "jessica marie thompson." but "jessica gtuflaw-raphsoday-goggleblog- gafilta-fish thomspon." accepting my grandmothers name "judith" as my middle name was hard enough. but thats a tradition. passing on the treasured name of loved ones.
names are a powerful thing. they identify us. the humanize us. and they define us.
i dont know about you. but i dont want to be defined at "gtuflaw."
I am thinking about naming my baby Teagen, i love unusually names! It makes it so much better for the baby!

My Father is Cherokee and that is our family last name so I kept it going. I am now 4 momnths pregnant with another boy and need help finding a strong name for him. So far I have Tagen (pronounced "taken" just with a g and not a k) Blaze. I want a unique strong name for him but one that isn't hard to spell or just flat out off the wall!!

No matter what your name is last or first, people will always find a way to pick on you, if it not your name it will be how you look, or who you are friends with. My ex partners name is Dean, it is a common name and he got picked on, he was called dorothy and a lot of other ones too. Naming my child i went through and looked at name that i could not pick on, and there was not one name i could not insult
When my sister was having her baby there was another woman there having twins who were fathered through an affair. Her husband chose to name the first born, "Shonuff". Saying she ran out on him and sho' 'nuff got pregnant.
My dad John died when I was pregnant with my daughter so I wanted to call her after him. We thought of lots of names like johnene and johnelle but finally setteled on Johna(John-ah).She really suits this name and everyone comments on it. I couldn't picture her as anything else now.

my first name isnt that bad, its pretty normal(stephanie) and my second name is, at first glance normal, but i'm french so its all in how you pronounce it: simone. its ok if you say it the english way, but you're supposed to say like Si-MOHN (sounds better with a french accent) and in high school a guys would, just to be mean call me semen. it was annoying, but i'd just punch them in the gut and walk away X)
I've always wanted to name one of my kids Majik (Magic) of course for a girl. I've always had a fondness for weird names. It makes the child unique!

My mum used to work with a lady called fanny ...
and in her old job her manager was called mrs bastard.
im naming my baby girl nirvana suzanne..
and i work with a girl and she's naming her son rufus wolfgang..
WOW, Some of these names do seem absolutely outrageous, however I agree with an earlier post. N e name can be teased and insulted. My name is completely normal "Amanda," and I was teased all through elementary school...."She's a man duh!!!" As for the mispronunciation of english grammar, I don't care, because I happen to be married to an Egyptian (his name is George,(pronounced Zhorzh, but by reading the english form you wouldn't be saying his name correctly.) We plan on having children soonreally love coptic names: Avrusini,Eriini (for girls),Bovli,Beshoi, Malekhei(for boys)--- however I bet there are very few here who would be able to give me the exact pronunciation, without first hearing it in spoken word. So in many cases it's hard to transliterate the exacted pronunciation from one certain language to another. And this especially true for America, because so many people of different nationalities, from differnet religious backgrounds, and etc. immigrate to the U.S.A each year. America is like a colorful cocktail of different peoples, so we are bound to find a cocktail of different names, and as our nation grows, so do the "odd" names. But they are usually only odd because they ar so far unfamiliar. If you were in Egypt, as I am currently, you would find "Fatima," to be a popular arabic name for a girl, which means "daughter of the prophet." It is an islamic name and the parents were not trying to be cruel calling there girl "fat mumma," the were giving root in here religious background. Here in Egypt the names normally reflect one of 2 backgrounds, either Coptic, which is the original branch of christianity in Egypt or Islamic. Anyhow that's my view. Sorry for my run-ons, and grammar flaws.
i know girls of the names

My husband's first name is Tracy but he has always gone by his middle (Shane). He was named after his dad's best friend, whose last name is Tracy. They called him Tracy for a few months but my mom-in-law said she got tired of people saying "oh that is such a pretty girls name" or when they heard her say his name they would comment on what a cute girl she had!
My husband has 2 brothers:
Jeremy Heath - who goes by Heath
Seth Franklin - who goes by SETH (go figure!)
I have 3 children; my son is Micah Boyd after my dad. My oldest daughter is Wynter Holli, & my youngest daughter is Cole Bailey. The Cole after my dad again , his last name. Everyone loves their names, but kinda have a hard time with Wynter, pronuonced (Winter).
I have a pretty unique name I would say, my mothers name is Matilda and they called her Milly and she was born in Rome(but only lived there for 3 years) so she named me Romilly, I have a sister Rosemary Sage and a brother named DuVall.

I have 2 boys- Arlo Valentino & Emilio Jesus and 2 girls- Natassja Danger & Gabriella Chloe, most people don't mind them, some absolutely hate them, but my kids love them and that's all I care about
