The Best New Upright Vacuums
In my house there are certain essential appliances that I could not face the day without. Those include the dishwasher, washer/dryer, and refrigerator. And on certain days of the week, the most beloved appliance in the house is the vacuum.
Last fall, Good Housekeeping magazine tested eleven of the newest upright vacuums. Click here to read the details.
Or, read my handy-dandy "Just The Facts" summary:
Best Overall: Hoover's Savvy U8145-900
Best Warranty: Dirt Devil Cruiser 091700
Best Value: Eureka Boss 5855
Best Lightweight: Panasonic's True Trak MC-V7582
Best Vacuum with a Disposable Bag: Sears Kenmore Progressive Direct Drive 33923
Robot vacuums don't deep-clean very well, and some are too bulky to fit under chairs and couches.
The expensive Dyson and Oreck vacuums did not suck up debris nearly as well as most of the other vacuums.
That's it. Happy vacuuming!

Last year, our Eureka went out on us. For a brief time we also tried a bagless vacuum, but that one overheated and then we found out the company went out of business. It's hard to find a good vacuum! After a lot of researching, I did find one that I hadn't heard of before, Miele Powerhouse upright. I don't remember which model I purchased at the time, but I am so incredibly happy with this vacuum--and getting excited about a vacuum is not high on my list of fun things to do! LOL!
I noticed that Miele did not show up on the list, was it tested? One place I also like to look when I am finding out satisfaction ratings is epinions.com. Though many of the reviewers can be hard core (I tried reveiwing before, and was told I did not include enough tech detail... I was posting as an average user), but I have found the ratings to be very much along the lines of reality of the product.
Happy vacuuming! LOL! Melissa in Bothell, WA
